Rubedo - projet (2024)

A wedge of blood driven into the coast

For this project, I intend to leverage a natural feature of the site: a steep recess in the coastline, appearing as an unfinished 'V' shape from the sky. The installation would evoke a kind of wedge driven into the coast, mirroring the contours of this fissure. Rising from sea level, it would extend onto the plateau. It would be visible from far away in the sky...

This canvas spur emerging from the waters would be both massive and alive, stirred by the swell and the wind.

The symbolism is as follows:

Sorrow leaves an indelible trace: it brands the very fabric of space with red-hot iron.

The blood spilled by this multitude of anonymous souls—stonecutters and coastal sailors—has tinged the waters crimson.

Washed away and scattered into the abyss, it is now solemnly summoned to be drawn back into the light.

Hoisted aloft, it is offered up to the heavens, a sacred oblation.
